Mr. Simon has 42 years' experience with energy and tech companies including two that went public (Northeast Optic Network and Capstone Turbine). He has also been in senior management at two Fortune 500 energy companies (El Paso Energy and Northeast Utilities), in management consulting at Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) and in government service (California Energy Commission and California Legislature). He has a B.S. with Highest Distinction from Indiana University and an M.S. from the University of California, Davis.
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Pearson is a Six Sigma manufacturing veteran with 30 years of experience in ceramics and three prior fuel cell companies. He has built a successful track record turning around and building technology companies from initial formation to growing revenues. Mr. Pearson has held leadership positions in manufacturing, operations and product development, providing strategies for creating lean and profitable organizations. He is a co-inventor of 10 issued patents on fuel cell and hydrogen generation technology with three pending patents. Mr. Pearson has served on the Board of Directors for the National Hydrogen Association, the U.S. Fuel Cell Council and two privately held companies.
Dr. Norm Bessette
Senior Vice President, Technology and Business Development
Dr. Bessette has been with Atrex Energy since August 2001 and is responsible for the development and design of all SOFC products. Prior to joining Atrex Energy, he spent seven years at Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation developing the first successful, reliable tubular SOFC technology. Dr. Bessette is well known in the SOFC community and has published 10 journal papers. Dr. Bessette obtained his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in 1990 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1994.
Dr. Jolyon Rawson
Vice President, Manufacturing
Dr. Rawson joined Atrex Energy in October 2000 and developed the manufacturing process for the fuel cell tubes. He is responsible for all aspects of cell manufacturing development from raw materials to a completed cell. In addition, he is responsible for scaling up production and improving fuel cell components. His previous experience was with Ceram Research. He has 20 years ceramic processing experience, complemented by an M.B.A. from Manchester Business School. He also holds a Ph.D. in materials science from Hallam University and a B.S. degree from Sheffield City Polytechnic.
Vice President, Finance and Accounting
Mr. Cobuzzi has over 35 years of experience in finance for startup ventures and multinational public companies. In addition, he has also provided financial consulting services to several companies. He has worked in the pharmaceutical and computer industries holding multiple positions. Don holds a B.S. in Finance from Bentley College and an M.B.A. from Suffolk University.
Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Michael Gagnon has over 20 years of sales, marketing and product development experience in the power, IT infrastructure and sensors/controls industries. Mike has a distinguished career leading sales, marketing and design engineering teams in a number of high tech companies in New England. He has held positions at large companies such as American Power Conversion and Sensata Technologies as well as smaller start-ups such as Coolcentric. Mike holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. in Marketing from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Co-founder of SourceSquared, an investment partnership specializing in energy technology and services, he currently serves as Senior Vice President of IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS). He is an entrepreneur and innovator who has created and built several firms. He co-founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), an international energy research firm acquired by IHS. He is also a founding board member of the New England Clean Energy Council and a Trustee of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Mr. Rosenfield received his M.B.A. from Boston University.
Co-founder of Source Squared along with Mr. Rosenfield, Mr. Wilson was a managing director of Boston Ventures since its formation in 1983. Prior to that, he was a vice president of First Venture Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Bank of Boston Corporation. Jamie received his M.A. degree from Cambridge University, England in 1974.
Co-founder and owner of Superior Controls, a leading automation engineering company that serves clients that desire world-class manufacturing. He has 23 years of control systems experience. In addition to serving on the Board of Atrex Energy, Mr. Pierro serves on the Board of E-Trolz, a leading provider of technology for electrophysiological medical devices. He received a B.A. in Chemistry from Boston University in 1981 and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1983.
President of DIF Enterprises, a company devoted to sustainable business practices. Previously, Mr. Foy served as the first Secretary of Commonwealth Development in the administration of Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and oversaw the agencies of Transportation, Housing, Environment and Energy. Previously, he served for 25 years as the President of the Conservation Law Foundation, New England's premier environmental advocacy organization. Among other awards, Mr. Foy has received the President's Environmental and Conservation Challenge Award – the country's highest conservation award – and the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service. Mr. Foy, graduated from Princeton University as a University Scholar in engineering and physics, and graduated from Harvard Law School.
Founder and CIO of Rivas Capital LLC. Rivas is a privately-held investment firm focused on long-term principal investments in technology-enabled businesses. Prior to founding Rivas, Carlos led business development at Grupo Numar, a leading food and agri-business conglomerate based in Costa Rica. Carlos holds a degree in Economics from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Cary G. Bullock
Cary is a 40-year veteran of clean energy companies, serving in a variety of top-level leadership positions. He was the CEO of ThermoEnergy Corporation for three years, retiring in 2013 and continuing as a Board member. He is also a Board member of medical device company Boyd Technologies and a Senior Advisor to energy project finance firm RENEW Energy Partners, LLC. Previously he served as CEO of Excelergy and Econoler, as well as Vice President of KENETECH and Xenergy. He has a B.S. and M.S. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and a B.A. in Physics from Amherst College.
Wilbert Van Den Hoek
Wilbert brings a wealth of technical and manufacturing experience to the Board. He has a distinguished career as a senior technical executive in a number of semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies. He was until 2008 EVP and CTO of Novellus Systems, Inc. and President and CEO of Novellus Development Company, LLC. He joined Novellus in 1990, after holding several positions at Phillips Research Laboratories. Since May 2011, he has served as Board Member of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation in California. Since 2005 he has served on the technical advisory boards of Cavendish Kinetics, Innopad, Inc., Innovent Technologies, and Process Relations. Mr. van den Hoek received a doctorandus degree cum laude in Chemistry from the Rijks Universiteit Utrecht, The Netherlands in December 1979.
